For those in peril on the sea.

Thank you Mario, But our princess is in another castle.
episode 21

The party begins negotiations with Aethean and Brutus. The pirates have a list of demands that they want. The party basically didn’t have any demands

They discover a few things about the southern lands that they find interesting. There are very few humans, no dwarves, and its basically controlled by an orcish empire.

The party is offered the chance to tour the pirate ships, they learn about gunpowder and canons.

Elsen pretends to vomit down into the hold in order to get below decks. She cleans up the mess but manages to pilfer a few things after drinking from a spitoon to induce vomit.

As the evening goes on the discussions with the pirates goes well, after a couple of hours, the alarm bell on the pier starts ringing frantically.

The party meanders over to the main pier after ensuring the pirates were settled back onto their ships and watches were set.

They find that both Collette and Maryann were both knocked unconcious and Collette was badly wounded. Leslie who was ringing the bell says there was a loud crack then everything went black. After casting some healing spells, they find out from collette that some hideous creature had made off with Griselda saying that they were taking what was owed to them.

The party after talking amongst each other decided that was OK, and that they didn’t want to leave while the pirates were still in port. Collette was disgusted by this decision. As was Madrak.

Making of a Mutiny
episode 22

The party decides to not pursue the missing princess, instead deciding to bargain with the pirates. The pirates requests are fairly simple, they wish for the party to help them overthrow their current leader, The Ginger Minge in a mutiny of major proportions.

This inaction upsets many of the guild members that have been living in the city and had developed relationships with the princess. The following morning Madrak is nowhere to be found, Hannik suspects he may have been involved with the kidnapping. Collette healed by Magnon rounds up a posse of able bodies which includes Ren, McGilliger and several red shirts to go and rescue the princess. Bootjack decides to follow them shortly after they leave.

The party meets Aethean’s second in command Laurethain and he becomes the sort of unofficial ambassador to the party. The

A halfling, a half orc, and a half barrel? ITS A RACE
episode 25

Several days after the death of Magnon and his funeral, the alarm bell rings shortly after breakfast. The party is pleased to find that Brutus has arrived accompanied by Slash and his previous second mate Brestina a female half-orc.

Also with Brutus are about 40 refugees, mainly female (elves, orcs, and half-elf/halforcs) and children. Also (retconned from the next episode lightside points) several bags of grains utilized in brewing beer. Barley, hops, and wheat.

Bootjack immediately takes stock of the refugees that arrived, looking for someone that seemed capable and strong. A young slender girl with dark brown hair, about 14 years of age. She is with her mother. Bootjack approached her and offered her a hatchet, and lessons on how to use it. The girl appeared bashful about the offer at first, but soon after she was seen showing off the hatchet to her friends.

The party resumed their activities for the day which now included helping a large group of refugees situated. Around lunchtime the ship bell on the pier began to ring. The lookouts had received word of a very small ship on the horizon.

From the dock the ship seemed to be in a shambles and did not appear to be crewed. Gus volunteered to go check it out, and commented that he was an experienced sailor. Brestina took this as a challenge. Hannik cut a barrel in half and tossed it to the gnome. Surprisingly the gnome jumped in the barrel. Hannik, Brestina, Bootjack, and Ren climbed on the skiff, with Brestina rowing.

The race commenced. Immediately Gus took a slight lead, the half orc began to get her pace and pulled ahead of the barrell bobbing gnome and continued to pull ahead with each powerful pull of the oars. Gus decided to even the odds and cast grease on the oars. Brestina was unable to keep hold of the oars and dropped them both into the water. The gnome overtook the skiff and pulled into the lead. Brestina was able to recover a single oar but was unable to hold it well enough to use. Dropping it, she jumped out of the boat and grabbed the stern with her hands. The thought of losing overwhelmed her sense and she entered a berserk state. Her kicks brought the bow of the ship pulled up out of the water and a large wake rose up behind her. She was rapidly catching up with Gus. The gnome panicked upon seeing this and started paddling like mad. He reached the ship, and the skiff pulled up a few moments later.

Gus boarded the dilapidated vessel only to find a pair of interesting characters passed out on the floor of the boat. The first was a raven like humanoid, the second a bald half elf, in strange garb. Ren boarded the ship, and was able to help Gus revive the bald man, and the raven. Gus was frightened of the foul mouthed bird man. The bald man, was named Naro and assured him there was nothing to fear.

The group decided that they wanted to keep the small boat, despite its poor condition. Ren and Gus stay behind and awkwardly manage to sail the sinking piece of junk in after a few hours. The other part of the party returned on the skiff and were back on shore within a few minutes. Naro and his bird friend Hugh are given sustenance and make a quick recovery. The group decided to retire for the evening after having dinner.

Elsen, is awakened by a figure standing at the foot of her bed. The figure starts asking her why she did what she did, and suddenly bursts into flame. Screaming at Elsen, at that moment a second figure appears and also bursts into flame. She realizes that these may be some of the women that were burned to death in the barn during the mutiny of the Minge. Elsen, wisely decides to GTFO of her house. She jumps through the window and hauls ass. Gus who has shacked up in the house next to Elsen hears the commotion and runs out to see what is going on, in time for Else to streak past him followed by two blazing spirits. Gus joins Elsen in running from the spirits. They double back once but find out quickly that the spirits are able to travel through terrain and that they are faster than the players. They both decide to make their way to the fountain hoping the water will provide some form of protection.

The alarm bells had sounded earlier on and the party started to arrive on the scene to see Elsen and Gus trying to avoid the two ghosts. The party engages the vengeful apparitions. They are managing to do some serious damage to the ghosts, but suddenly one of the spirits screams sending out a fiery burst. This immediately renders Elsen and Hugh unconscious and on deaths door. Ren ran to heal Elsen and then to Hugh, while the rest of the party continued to battle the ghosts. Hannik and Bootjack arrive on the scene finally. One of the spirits is defeated the other one releases the same fiery scream as before, this time only Hugh falls (again) to the deadly attack. Within a few quick moments the party mopped up the spirits and emerged victorious, and take a well deserved rest.

The following morning Slash gives a tearful goodbye, and leaves again with Brutus. They promise to return in around a month. Brutus is happy to hear the news about the fiery spirits being defeated as they had killed a dozen or so men on the other island.

episode 29

I need to preface the completely insane and off the rails shit you guys did this night (and the next two) with a heartfelt thank you. I had all my D&D stuff stolen about 5 or 6 weeks earlier. I had been tired and left it in my car. Someone broke into it and mistook my D&D bag for a laptop I’m sure. I assume that they most likely threw away hundreds of hours of creation and encounters that I had done over the multiple years of playing this campaign. Needless to say, this took the wind out of my sails and I took an indefinitely leave of absence from the group.

On November 1st, my wife told me that she was really jonesing for some Pho. The three of us were seated, and much to my surprise a few minutes later Tom comes walking through the door. I was a bit surprised because I figured they would be playing that night. I asked him if he wanted to sit with us and he said he was sitting in the back with some friends, and that we should join them. We got up and headed to the back and the entire group was there: Jon, Vickie, Katie (now Kevin), Don, Tom, Tait and even Darrell.

For whatever reason it never occurred to me that this was some sort of pre planned meeting (Vic even straight up told me that it was and I thought she was fucking around). As dinner went on , I was feeling very happy to see everyone as it had been quite a while. Some of the smokers got up, to go smoke I assumed. They returned carrying a gray “handbag of holding” very similar to the one I had. I was stunned, I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I literally asked them if they had stole my shit and were fucking with me!! Instead it was the exact opposite. Seeing the shitty situation I had been in, everyone pitched in and purchased everything I had lost including the messenger bag that I really loved. I got a little misty! I love you guys, you’re the best. I’m glad you’re in my life. The great thing is… nobody will most likely ever read this, but at least I put it down! NOW ONTO YOUR CHICANERY!!!!

Everyone's thinkin what I'm thinkin right?! PEER PRESSURE!
episode 30

The party departs the sewers and notices that there is a giant pinkish/purplish, nebulous streak through the sky.

Several hours after “flushing” the Excremental (thanks Krystal and Tammi) a new face suddenly appears, swimming ashore. A half-elf, half-orc by the name of Tanith. She is met by Brestina shortly after coming ashore and is taken to get food and drink and new clothes as she meets the party members one by one, meeting Keyleth and Blake last.

Bootjack has an interesting meeting.

The party spends the night in the pub getting to know their new friend and drinking and eating. Everyone is in good spirits, with the exception of Bootjack who believes he has received a message and has convinced the party to go to Sigil with him to give the mysterious book to someone called Lux. The next morning as the part is taking breakfast, the alarm bells sound from the main gate.

They began moving to the gate and are met by the messenger of the watch. He says that they have, guests, that require immediate attention. The party arrives at the gate and 4 large 10 foot tall creatures with large flappy ears, leathery brown gray skin, hard boiled leather studded armor, and massive 15 foot tall pikes are standing on the other side. Along with them is a 5’ tall creature of their same race. He appears to be in charge. .

The largest of the four carries a small golden box 3’x3’, beautifully crafted, it is covered in gems of many colors and appears to have a small door on the front of it. From the box 4 legs descend from the bottom until they hit the ground. At this point the box walked forward before a door opened and a disgusting creature appears. The creature creates a small stairway up to a speaking pedestal that appears as suddenly as the creature.

The creature is about 1 foot tall and is wider than he is tall. He is immensely fat and is covered in ridiculous jewelry, and his attire is gaudy purples and oranges stripes and overly intricate. His skin is a sickly blue color, and his eyes are yellowish with thin black pupils. He is covered in small brown warts and yellow pustules litter his body.

As he gets to the top of the stair onto the podium, he stands waiting… before clearing his throat and sending a scathing look at Crux. Crux begins reading : The cunning, bold, conqueror of Q’alaz, defender of Shemora’s honor, the greatest collector of magic items in the multiverse, second in command of the Incanterium, and master of house Zeepzorp in Sigil, the… he pauses… and sighs… incredibly handsome Samhnasach

Bootjack upon seeing this scene, immediately believes that he is dreaming, and decides that he can simply disrobe because he is invisible. Samhnasach appears a bit ill eat ease with the dwarf acting so oddly. He states that he has come with a wealth of magical items and wishes to trade for the book, he is being extremely cordial and polite.

Keyleth tells him that they lost the book into the water and that they no longer have it. The blob’s demeanor changes somewhat at this point, souring. He tells the party directly that he knows that the book is nearby for a fact, and that it is pointless lying to him. Around this time Bootjack realizes this is really happening and puts his clothes on, acting a tad bit more sane. Samhnasach offers three very powerful magic items, as well as the deed to his own mansion in Sigil for the book. He is told by Blake that they will have to confer and make a decision. Samhnasach says that he will give them until morning of the following day to make up their mind. Due to the way that the keys work on this place he can’t stay any longer than that. He also demands to be put up in their finest establishment and eat their finest food.

The monk Naro is tasked with taking the elephant creatures and the blob to the bar. Maryanne prepares a variation of sheperds pie for them at his request. The blob creature finds it scrumptious, because duh… Maryanne is the best. Naro also makes inroads with the small elephant, finding out his name is Crux as well as some information in regard to Samhnasach, such as that they are contracted to him for something like the next 100 years.

The party gathers together and begins scheming as it heads towards late afternoon/early evening. Blake wants to give the book to the little guy for the items, but his opinion is outweighed by the others. They clearly do not trust the little blob man, and decide to wait until the middle of the night and then leave on Keyleths ship. The blob comes out a short time later, letting them know he had been listening to their conversation, and proceeded to order his Maelaphants down to the pier. He says he will guard the pier until morning. Keyleth is angered by this as is Bootjack. They follow the Maelephants and Samhnasach to the pier. They make several attempts to make it past the guards with no luck. The blob goes into his box. Tanith remains on the pier watching from a safe distance.

Bootjack decides to force his way through, and is promptly picked up by the trunk of one of the Maelephants and is tossed over the side. Tanith runs to the front gate upon seeing this and has them signal the alarm bell. As the sun begins to set, Keyleth decides that she will force her way through by using shadow step. She teleports past the elephants some 30 feet. The creatures immediately charge her, piercing her several times with their large pikes. Keyleth lays on the ground bleeding and Crux stands over her, angry, shouting that nobody needed to die. Then plunges his pike into Keyleth, killing her.

Brestina is the first party member to arrive on the scene apart from Tanith. Seeing the bloodied body of Keyleth lying on the pier she demands to have her friends body. In response Crux kicks the body into the water. Blake Griffin arrives around this time and sees this, he sends water elementals to retrieve the corpse of Keyleth.

Bootjack decides he will swim down to Keyleth’s ship and attempt to board it. The elephants follow him down the pier. Bootjack manages to make it on board and cuts the lines before the Maelephants can board it. He goes down into Keyleth’s space and is able to find the book after 10 or so minutes of searching. He comes back up on the deck, surprised to see that none of the elephant men are onboard. Before a voice from an invisible Samhnasach , mentions that he has some big balls to wear that holy symbol, the two prepare to clash.
